I’m not any too happy with this development. Twitter is making changes toward closing their ecosystem from the majority of third party clients. Although my TweetDeck use would not change since it is owned by Twitter, Tweetbot would very much be in the target of these changes.
If you’re concerned about these changes, follow the discussion regarding this article on Lobste.rs. I am starting to look at other options like status.net but I haven’t found anything I really like yet. The key is a federated system, not something controlled by one company like Twitter or Facebook.
Update: I’m liking what I’m seeing with rstat.us. I’m planning to do some testing with its codebase shortly.
