Mac OS X 10.7 Lion for $29.99 in July on Mac App Store

Apple just announced a release date and price for Mac OS X 10.7 Lion at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference 2011. Mac OS X Lion will only be available in the Mac App Store and will be available for purchase in July at $29.99. The download will be 4GB and can be bought once and then installed on all Macs like other Mac App Store purchases.

Mac OS X Server is no longer a separate product in Lion and only requires purchasing the requires apps from the Mac App Store to add the server functionality desired.

Lots of other great new features that seem similar to iPad apps and app experience. Key new features are:

  • Launchpad
  • Full-screen apps
  • Mission Control
  • Auto save with basic version control
  • Resume applications where you left off
  • Mail 5 which looks similar to the iPad’s mail client
  • AirDrop for instant sharing via WiFi to those on the same network
  • All-new FileVault with disk-level encryption

We can’t wait to install Lion and test it out first hand!
